Mentorship

Azantian Literary Agency Mentorship/Internship Program

Creating an inclusive space for authors is a core tenet of ALA. We recognize the importance of having diverse voices at all levels of publishing. With that in mind, ALA has created a yearly mentorship/internship for members from historically marginalized communities with aims towards a career in publishing, empowering them to ask questions, grow, and learn. The goal is to help these mentees foster the skills they need to get placed at a publisher, agency, or move up within ALA as a junior agent within a reasonable time-frame (no interns in perpetuity here!).

In 2020, we welcome Deborah Olivera and Octavia Saenz to ALA. They are phenomenal talents, and we can't wait to watch them continue to thrive!

Deborah Olivera

Deborah Olivera

Deborah is a Brazilian-American video editor from Florida. They've been into publishing since reading Anna-Marie McLemore's The Weight of Feathers and realizing that they hadn't truly seen themselves in a book before. Now they're fully immersed into the publishing world, bringing in diversity with a vengeance.
